The 6th International Socio-Political Poster Biennale

Honourable Mention in The 6th International Socio-Political Poster Biennale in Poland with the EXCESS BAGGAGE poster.

On September 2nd 2016 the Sixth International Socio-Political Poster Biennale was inaugurated at the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oswiecim. Director Leszek Szuster inaugurated the exhibition and welcomed the guest of honor Zofia Posmysz, the artists of the works presented in the Biennale, the delegation from the Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany in Krakow, representatives from the Austrian Consulate in Krakow, rectors and deans from polish Academies of art, from the local authorities of the city and community of Oswiecim, partners, sponsors as well as a group of apprentices from Volkswagen from Germany and Poland, that were staying at the IYMC for their common seminar "Learning through meeting".

Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice-President of the International Auschwitz Committee and Chairman of the Foundation for the IYMC, Janusz Chwierut, Mayor of the city of Oswiecim, and Pawel Warchol, Curator of the Biennale, introduced the guests to the exhibition. Then the director of the museum of contemporary art MOCAK in Krakow, Anna Maria Potocka, interpreted the award-winning posters in her speech "Poster as a weapon".

After that the chairman of the jury Prof. Wadysaw Pluta (Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow) together with the other members of the jury Sebastian Kubica (University of Silesia in Katowice, Institute of Art in Cieszyn), Krzyszytof Dydo (Cracow Poster Gallery), Dr. Pawel Warchol, Heidemarie Roth (AnStifter Foundation as a replacement for Peter Grohmann) and Leszek Szuster presented the results of the competition.

294 artists from 27 countries (Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Lithuania, Taiwan, Mexico, China, Slovakia, Turkey, Germany, Serbia, Hungary, Argentina, Japan, Ukraine, Greece, Iran, Belarus, Ecuador, Great Britain, France, South Korea, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Jordan and USA) participated in our competition. From 594 posters sent to us by artists, 81 qualified for the competition exhibition.

The jury awarded the following prizes:
1st Prize - Tomasz Bogusławski (Poland), "Never again..."
2nd Prize - Justyna Jędrysek (Poland), "West-East Imigration"
3rd Prize - Faldin Family (Russia), "Conflict"

City of Dachau Prize - Mingliang Li (China), "Berlin Wall"
AnStifter Foundation Prize - YiMing Liu (China), "Freedom of speech"
Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków Prize: Linas Spurga Jr (Lithuania), "Freedom of Speech"
Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice Prize: Faldin Family (Russia), "Nature Morte"
Jozef Hoard Prize funded by the Rector of the University of Silesia in Katowice: Piotr Depta (Poland), "Greece"
Association of Polish Artists and Designers Prize: Marta Tomczyk (Poland), "Uchodźcy"
